Study Abroad

Explore current study abroad opportunities for UCCS Political Science students.

The political science department currently offers one study abroad opportunity, with plans to offer more in the future. The current study abroad class to Florence Italy occurs in odd-numbered years. It was most recently taught summer 2023.

PSC 4180 - Gender in International Politics in Italy

While huge gains have been made for gender equality in American politics, that is not the case throughout the world. This course will take a hard, analytic look at gender in a comparative international sense.

You will use aspects of comparative, international relations, and American institutions and behavior to ask and answer questions relating to gender and politics.

During this experience, students stay at a private villa in the hills above Florence, where family style meals are provided. They tour the Uffizi Gallery, have a private tour of the Palazzo Vecchio, visit a winery, and tour an olive farm. The students also make their own dinner, with a Tuscan cooking class taught by a local chef. Students have opportunities to tour Florence on their own – whether it is the Roman theater not far from the villa or the Boboli Gardens or seeing Michelangelo’s David sculpture in person.
